To ensure trouble-free use of your trailer
we hope you will find the
following information useful.
Please let us know if you have any comments,
experiences
or any information we could add to this page to help others.
1) COUPLING
On the drawbar, all
DAXARA & ERDE trailers are equipped with a 50mm ball coupling with safety
catch, which prevents the trailer becoming detached.
COUPLING AND UNCOUPLING OF TRAILER, lift the handle attaching the
coupling to the towball at the same time as compressing the locking
trigger on the handle and lift from the towball or place over the towball.
It is possible to install an antitheft device that locks the coupling and
provides added security. This is a recommended optional extra, please see
the accessories available for your model of trailer (For details click
your make of trailer - Erde or Daxara.)
The towing vehicle should be fitted with a
towing bracket of a recognised standard. Preferably these should comply
with the relevant British and international standards
(UL standards AU113 and 114 and international standards ISO1103 and 3553).
European standard for the towball is 50mm diameter.
For additional security a safety chain is
fitted as standard. This should be secured to the towing bracket at all
times when towing, so that in the event of the trailer uncoupling the trailer will still be
attached to the towing vehicle. (UK Reg. 1995).
2) MAINTENANCE – Very
Important
Road trailers must be kept in a roadworthy
condition and it is a legal requirement that all trailers be maintained
and comply with the different regulations. While there is very little
maintenance required on DAXARA & Erde trailers, it is important that the
unit should be checked annually. After assembly and after the first 60 miles, check the tightness of a nuts & bolts of the following main parts: *
wheels * axle * drawbar * coupling head * mudguard * lighting.
3)
HUBS
The wheel hubs including bearings are
pre-greased for life. Therefore no greasing needs to be done. When necessary,
replacement hubs and bearing are available as spares. Do not put trailer
in sea water, damage may occur if hubs/axle are immersed in salt water.
4) LOADING –Very Important
All loads should be evenly spread inside the
trailer. For your
own safety it is important that the trailer is not over loaded, the
suspension units and tyres are designed to carry the trailers' maximum
gross weight which is marked on the identification plate on the trailer.
It is an offence to load the trailer to more
than its marked gross weight
5) TYRE
PRESSURES
Inflation pressure should be checked regularly to avoid
any risk of abnormal wear and punctures.

If heavily loaded or for long trips, it is
necessary to increase tyre pressures by 0.50 bar (7psi).
Option: a spare wheel and fitting kit is available and is highly
recommended for safety and convenience. (For details click your make of
trailer Erde & Daxara
6) ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The electrical fitments are based on the
European standard system equivalent BS 149A.

7) NUMBER PLATE
The number plate fitted on the trailer must be
identical to the towing vehicle, hand written number plates are not
acceptable and are illegal. For further information concerning the number
plate law please click here.
8) TOWING WEIGHTS
Total gross trailer weight of an
unbraked trailer includes the weight of the trailer and the load. The
maximum legal gross trailer weight of an unbraked trailer is 750kg or 50%
of the kerb side weight of the towing
vehicle. It is an offence to load the trailer to more than its marked
gross weight.
9) TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Gross trailer
weight
or maximum authorised mass (MAM): These refer to the total weight of the
trailer including its maximum payload. It is the weight marked on the
trailer specifications plate and must not in any circumstances be
exceeded.
Unladen weight:
This is the weight of the trailer without payload. This can vary from
catalogue weight due to accessory options and should always be checked on
a certified weighbridge.
Payload:
This is the weight of the load that the trailer is permitted to carry and
is the GROSS TRAILER WEIGHT minus the UNLADEN WEIGHT. If there is any
doubt, us a weighbridge.
Trainweight:
This is the Gross TOWING VEHICLE weight plus the Gross TRAILER WEIGHT.
Kerbside weight:
The kerb weight of the towing vehicle is the weight of that vehicle
including all fluids with a full tank of fuel and carrying all spares and
tools which the vehicle is usually supplied but without driver, passenger
or luggage.
Wheeltrack:
The horizontal distance between the centre lines of the wheel tyre treads.
Nose load / Hitch load stability:
A trailer must always be towed in a stable condition. To achieve this, the
trailer must exert a downwards load on the towball of the towing vehicle.
This will vary from trailer to trailer and should be obtained from the
supplier. It is likely to be 50 to 75 kg. This is measured with a spring
balance or scales supporting the full weight of the hitch at the towing
point and as the towing height. Care must be taken when loading the
trailer not to change the nose load. Maximum allowable nose load is given
by the (towing) vehicle manufacturer.
Maximum permissible length:
The normal maximum permissible length of a trailer is 7 metres excluding
the drawbar and coupling.
Maximum permissible width:
2.3 metres.
Note:
In the case of length, width and height, these are overall dimensions
including linchpins, hinges, etc., it is possible to increase these
dimensions in special circumstances
